''When you drink kava in moderation it has a de-stressing and calming effect. Drinking a shell or two of Kava is a traditional end of day custom in the pacific island. Originally, used on special occasions and in the village chief's nacamal (meeting house), these days neighbourhood kava bars are called nacamals. People congregate in a quiet environment with an introspective vibe is subdues lighting. This is said to enhance the calming effect of the kava and allows for a spiritual engagement with one's ancestors.

Kava is accompanied by wasemmout' or twenty vatu (twenty cent) finger food and followed by 'kale' or beer.

When you drink kava the locals will pour a small amount on the ground to hoour their ancestors and drink the shell in one go after 'Malok' or cheers.
